WiLDCOAST is working with local communities and our partners in California and Baja California to preserve threatened coastal and marine areas and the endangered animals that live there.

New Campaign: Save the Gray Whale Nursery: WiLDCOAST recently helped protect 120,000-acres surrounding San Ignacio Lagoon, the world’s last undeveloped gray whale lagoon. Absolute success of the “Sexi” Campaign in the heart of Mexico City
On Tuesday September the 20th we officially launched the controversial campaign “My man does not need sea turtle eggs”. New Campaign: My Man Doesn't Need to Eat Sea Turtle Eggs.

Thanks to a partnership with Los Tigres del Norte, one of Latin America's most beloved musical groups, icons with a social conscience, we just completed our 2005 "Tigres No Comen Tortugas" Mexican tour to halt the urban consumption of sea turtle eggs and meat in North America. Laguna San Ignacio Conservation Alliance

Laguna San Ignacio in Baja California Sur, Mexico is one of the most pristine gray whale migration destinations on Earth. Two to three hundred whales congregate there every year to birth their young, rear them, and prepare them for the long journey north to Alaska. A thriving ecotourism business has blossomed in this remote location, where hundreds of tourists flock each spring to view and touch the curious young whales. Read More >>

Bahía de los Angeles
WiLDCOAST worked with Pronatura, the International Community Foundation and the Smith family of Bahía de los Angeles to establish Mexico's first private-sector coastal ejidal reserve - La Unica Nature Preserve, just south of Bahía de los Angeles. This 300-acre beachfront natural wonderland will help to save the amazing coastal creatures who inhabit this area, including sea turtles and whalesharks, while promoting local economic development. We are proud of the Smith Family and Pronatura for working so hard to make the unique-La Unica-dream a reality! An additional 2,000 acres have been protected in this unique partnership that has resulted in the conservation of two wetlands (Guadalupe-Los Remedios and Las Animas) that has benefited local people.

Bahía Concepción Peninsula Nature Preserve
In partnership with Pronatura, Jeffrey White, and the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS), WiLDCOAST is working to preserve the 105,000-acre Bahía Concepción Peninsula Nature Preserve.

This wildlife paradise is located south of Mulegé on the shore of the Sea of Cortez and is virtually uninhabited. In May 2004, representatives from NOLS, Pronatura and WiLDCOAST met with the Ejido la Purisima to begin negotiations on how to best preserve the area in a way that is compatible with the conservation and economic development goals of this community organization.

Clean Water Campaign
WiLDCOAST is working with community groups on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border to clean up the Tijuana River, one of the most polluted water bodies in North America. The toxic waste and raw sewage that foul this river have made beaches in the U.S.-Mexico border region the most polluted in Baja California and California. This effort by WiLDCOAST involves monitoring the health of beach users and developing a Comprehensive Clean Water Community Action Plan for the Tijuana River.

LNG Campaign
Some of the world’s largest energy companies such as Sempra, Shell, Chevron-Texaco, Mitsubishi and BHP Billiton have proposed building liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals off of the coast of California and Baja California with little or no public involvement or government scrutiny. In order to halt the proposed industrialization of our coast, WiLDCOAST is working with partners in Mexico and in the U.S. through the RACE Coalition (LNGwatch.com) and the California LNG Stakeholder Working Group.
