Sea Turtle Meat on the Black Market

We continue with the Don’t Eat Sea Turtle” this time bringing along former sea turtle poacher Francisco Fischer to highlight the illegal trade of sea turtles. He used to poach between 3 and 5 thousand sea turtles a year, and had instant credibility. He talked about the ins and outs of that black market, which fascinated the media and its audience. The campaign’s goal is to continue to reduce the black market demand for sea turtles; and  to increase pressure on federal agencies in Mexico to crack down on the illegal turtle trade; as well as to create a new generation of sea turtle conservationists among the youth of Baja California and Mexico.

Results

Reached between 60 and 80 million people with more than 40 appearances on national television (Televisa and TV Azteca, channel 11) and radio.  Also we got covered by, National Geographic, CNN, Associated Press, San Diego Union-Tribune, Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, and Univision (Spanish US national TV).
