SIA Tech High School and WiLDCOAST Partner to Increase Students Conservation Awareness

At San Diego Job Corps Center

On March 31 WiLDCOAST  and SIA Tech High (at San Diego Job Corps center) partnered for an afternoon of awareness and discussion of current regional environmental issues and potential careers in conservation.

The School for Integrated Academics and Technologies (SIATech) is a public charter high school with campuses nationwide. The program re-engages disconnected students through an innovative curriculum that integrates technology with academics and provides the opportunity to earn a high school diploma. SIATech is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization where all students hold promise and can succeed when given the opportunity, tools, and motivation they need.

Over 35 students learned of the environmental, economic and public health impacts Tijuana River pollution has on our border region community and ways to reduce the human impact on the environment.

Students later engaged in a discussion on  practical steps to take to begin a career in conservation.

Students will be participating in the upcoming community cleanups to be held in the Tijuana River Valley during the month of May and June, 2011.

Note: In October 2010 over 100 student volunteers helped remove over 1,000 waste tires from the Tijuana River stream in just one day.
