On June 4th WiLDCOAST, Habitat Heroes and one dozen other community partners sponsored outdoor recreation and environmental education events throughout the Otay Valley Regional Park. Mt. Bikers, hikers, joggers, birders, nature lovers, and kids and adults from throughout San Diego visited the park, some for their first time. The City of Chula Vista, The City of San Diego, San Diego County, and scores of non-profit community partners have been working hard to restore this amazingly beautiful open space for wildlife corridors/habitat and recreational opportunities.

The event kicked off with a welcome ceremony at the Beyer Blvd. Ranger Station with County Supervisor Greg Cox, Chula Vista Mayor Cheryl Cox, and City of San Diego District 8 Councilman David Alvarez. Other events included guided nature walks with park rangers, a horseback ride with the Bonita Valley Horsemen, native plant talks with the San Diego Native Plant Society, native animal presentations with the Chula Vista Nature Center, and a bird walk with San Diego Audubon Society, among others!
