Last Sunday June 5th, over 300 people celebrated Cabo Pulmo Marine National Park’s 16th anniversary. Attendees included residents of Cabo Pulmo and La Riviera, in addition to representatives from numerous environmental organizations such as Greenpeace, CEMDA, Niparajá, Amigos de Cabo Pulmo, among many others. Besides having contests, environmental education activities, dancing and games, Greenpeace launched a huge life saver to the sea, as a message to Mexican environmental authorities to prevent the damage that would destroy de Cabo Pulmo coral reef, by revoking the permit granted to Spanish developer Hansa for the construction of Cabo Cortes, a mega-development larger than Los Cabos.

WiLDCOAST/COSTASALVAjE distributed t-shirts that read "Save Cabo Pulmo, NO to Cabo Cortes” with the image of legendary Mexican revolutionary leader Emiliano Zapata. “People really liked the t-shirt and felt very inspired to continue to fight for the conservation of Cabo Pulmo,” said Cecilia Fischer, regional coordinator of Wildcoast. “They liked them so much that even policemen wanted them”.
