UNESCO and Ramsar Convention have confirmed their diplomatic visit to Cabo Pulmo in order to evaluate the impact the mega development Cabo Cortes will have upon Marine Reserve of Cabo Pulmo.

The visit will be from 14th - 17th of November, with meetings held between the commission sent by the UNESCO and Ramsar, and federal authorities of Mexico, and conservation groups protecting Cabo Pulmo, as well as developers with projects in East Cape. This visit was petitioned by several non-governmental organizations doing conservation because Cabo Pulmo is a World Heritage Site under threat by a mega development.

Conservation organizations such as Greenpeace, CEMDA, WiLDCOAST/COSTASALVAjE have warned of the threats that mega development such as “Cabo Cortes” has on Cabo Pulmo. The location, type and size of Cabo Cortes affects the survival of Cabo Pulmo, which provides oxygen, and a save heaven for the congregation of fish, which are helping to repopulate the weaken fisheries of the Gulf of California. Hence why this marine reserve, has been recently named “the most robust marine reserve in the planet”.
