Due to Tijuana River Sewage Contaminated Water

Yesterday about 50 million gallons of sewage contaminated water made it to the Tijuana Estuary. The Southern California Coastal Ocean Observing System (SCCOOS) Storm Water Plume Tracking System shows definite plume impact to the Imperial Beach shoreline.

Ocean current direction is presently flowing from south to north. Strong south winds and rains are predicted for today, therefore the Department of Environmental Health of San Diego County issued a closure for Imperial Beach as sewage impacts will be inevitable.

Surfers and swimmers are strongly advised to avoid ocean water contact until closure is lifted.
