Against All Odds: Saving Cabo Pulmo!
Under threat by mega resort Cabo Cortes for 200,000 persons and 27,000rooms with a 490 slip marina
During the week 23rd to the 26th February, WiLDCOAST Director Serge Dedina and Field Coordinator Cecilia Fischer visited communities in San Jose del Cabo, Cabo Pulmo (1 hr North of Los Cabos) and Punta Vinorama (2hrs on dirt road from Los Cabos) to share the challenges and success of the work to save Cabo Pulmo and the region during the last year.
In Cabo Pulmo, a group of bi-lingual residents gave a great welcoming. In San Jose del Cabo, students from the degree of Adventure Travel from the University in Cabo San Lucas (Universidad Autonoma de Baja California Sur – Campus Cabo San Lucas) are doing amazing things for Cabo Pulmo - their future work arena! At the Mercado Organicos de San Jose, vendors wore t-shirts of the campaign “Save Cabo Pulmo! No to Cabo Cortes!” and gave a space for Serge Dedina to give a presentation on the updates on the campaign. It was evident everyone was on board to help Cabo Pulmo! Finally, in Punta Vinorama, residents were hiped to know Cabo Pulmo remains the focuss of world attention for the coast of East Cape is an unforgettable place. A future developer of East Cape spent some time talking to Cecilia and he said “I didnt know how important Cabo Pulmo was and how easy it can be to talk to conservation groups.”
And the work continues, with simple and thoughtful residents doing extraordinary actions to keep Cabo Pulmo and the region a prestine ecosystem and breathtaking place!
