Environmental Promotors Trained in Recycling/Composting Techniques

by Paloma Aguirre
Community Center in Los Laureles, Tijuana

On Saturday April 7th a group of approximately 20 residents of Los Laureles Tijuana who have been named Environmental Promotors participated in a recycling and composting training.

These active Los Laureles residents have been participating in periodic community-organizing meetings to address solid waste issues their community faces for inadequate trash collection services.

In addition to learning recycling and composting techniques, the Environmental Promotors learned the necessary steps they need to take to plan, organize and carry out community cleanups and seek support from local business as well as local government agencies. These trainings are part of an EPA funded project lead by WiLDCOAST and Tijuana Calidad de Vida. The goal of this project is to increase the capacity of local residents to better manage trash and solid waste.
