Volunteers at the 10th Annual Creek to Bay

Seventy volunteers showed up at the Imperial Beach shoreline for the 10th annual Creek to Bay Cleanup, gathering 400 lbs. of trash.  Volunteers included students from Montgomery Middle School and Mar Vista High School, girl scouts from Imperial Beach and local residents, all eager to collect trash that would otherwise end up in the ocean.  They collected items like cans, plastic bottles, paper coffee cups, shoes and even a rope that was tangled to seaweed. WiLDCOAST staff also gave two special talks to the volunteers about water quality issues at the border and Marine Protected Areas in San Diego.  Volunteers were very excited to be able to concentrate in an area of such biological significance and in need of restoring.

The cleanup took place at the Imperial Beach shoreline, next to the recently implemented Marine Protected Area.

Specials thanks to I Love A Clean San Diego for coordinating the effort! Overall the cleanup was a huge success, just check out these pictures!
