Boy and Girls Club of San Diego Beach Cleanup

July 10, 2012

A group of 60 kids ages 5-10 from the Boys and Girls Club of Greater San Diego joined WiLDCOAST for an educational talk and a beach cleanup in Imperial Beach.

The kids learned about Marine Protected Areas or “underwater parks” in San Diego, marine animals and the importance of protecting our marine ecosystems.  After the talk, WiLDCOAST staff and the kids headed over to the beach to start picking up trash.  The kids found plastic bottles, plastic bags, lots of cigarette buds and tiny pieces of plastic debris.  “We need to pick up even the small pieces of plastic because sea turtles and fish eat the plastic and they can die” Angelina said, one of the girls from the group.

Special thanks to the Boys and Girls Club of Greater San Diego for their commitment to conserving our oceans clean and participating in our conservation efforts.
