We are thrilled that the Sandler Foundation has once again honored us with a $100,000 challenge grant! Since July 1st, all new gifts to WiLDCOAST (ranked a 4-star organization by Charity Navigator) or increased donations from previous donors, will be matched dollar for dollar by the Sandler Foundation, up to $100,000! Through this effort, we can double the amount of funds raised, and also double our protection of our coasts and oceans!

Our summer victory in Cabo Pulmo proves the strength of collaboration and determination. We joined with others to draw international attention to the importance of preserving the world’s most “robust marine reserve” by halting a proposed new city of 200,000 that threatened this precious jewel and marine protected area in the Sea of Cortez. We collaborated with other groups so that we could double, triple, and quadruple our efforts when needed, to make sure that the coral reef and marine life there would remain, for generations to come. And we succeeded!

But we are not done. We have recently expanded our efforts into Michoacan and Oaxaca in Southern Mexico to work with indigenous communities and the Mexican government to protect the world’s most important sea turtle nesting beaches and mangrove lagoons along their coastline. We are also leading conservation and outreach efforts throughout Southern California introducing communities to California’s new Marine Protected Areas.

WiLDCOAST depends on our friends and donors to help us conserve whale shark feeding areas, preserve gray whale birthing lagoons, save threatened coral reefs, and restore our estuaries. While we have some foundation support, individual donations are critical to helping us carry out our conservation mission.

It is through your donations that we are able to thrive through tough times and preserve some of the world’s most amazing coastal and marine habitats. As we saw in Cabo Pulmo, when friends band together to support what they love, amazing things are possible!
