by Paloma Aguirre

The U.S. International and Boundary Water Commision (U.S.IBWC) received a report from its counterpart in Mexico (CILA) that a scheduled maintenance will take place at the Playas de Tijuana sewage pump station.

An estimated 171,000 gallons of raw sewage are expected to be discharged into the Pacific Ocean approximately 1.3 miles south of the border in order to perform regular pump maintenance. This spill is expected to last from 10pm July 24, 2012 to 4am July 25, 2012.

Ocean users are advised to avoid water contact during the next 24 hrs as the swell direction indicates a south to north pattern.
