WiLDCOAST has been awarded $50,000 from NBC Universal Foundation to fund the Tijuana River Youth Project. The Tijuana River Youth Project will engage high school students from underserved, park-poor communities in educational opportunities that enhance environmental literacy, and media-technology education with use of the environment as a context for learning.
This project will be an innovative project that integrates conservation and education; meaningful environmental stewardship experiences, and outdoor recreation in the Tijuana River Valley Regional Park and Tijuana River National Wildlife Refuge, Estuary and Tijuana River Mouth Marine Protected Area using innovative and contemporary approaches that actively engage youth, and create conservation leadership.
Additionally, the Tijuana River Project will provide stewardship opportunities for San Diego county residents to engage in active conservation and restoration through cleanup and restoration events, nature walks, nature and watershed conservation talks, water quality workshops, and bilingual education efforts.
