WiLDCOAST’s Program Manager Katie Westfall, who heads the Otay River Conservation Program, received the “2010 Community Team Member of the Year” Award from the County of San Diego Department of Parks and Recreation.

The County presented the award with the following recognition:

“Katie has been invaluable to southern portion of the County, especially in the Otay River Valley, coordinating activities such as clean-up days and educating the public about preserving natural, historic, and cultural resources.

Katie’s positive attitude and grasp of communication skills, from traditional public speaking to social networking, benefit both Department of Parks and Recreation and the community. Her outreach efforts—in both Spanish and English—have recruited committed volunteers. She has also assisted in efforts to raise funds for park projects and secured a grant for directional signage around the Otay Valley Regional Park.

In addition to her position with WiLDCOAST, Katie volunteers with the Otay Valley Regional Park Citizens’ Advisory Committee and the San Diego County Parks Society.”

WiLDCOAST thanks the County of San Diego Department of Parks and Recreation for recognizing Katie and for their great efforts to maintain and enhance the quality of life in San Diego through parks, recreational opportunities, and the presevation of natural resources.
