Thank You Encinitas MPA Watch Volunteers

Swami's MPA Watch Program Training a Success.

On Saturday, November 2, WILDCOAST, in partnership with San Diego Coastkeeper, carried out its first MPA Watch Training for the Swami's Marine Protected Area in Encinitas. Building off of WILDCOAST's successful MPA Watch Program in Imperial Beach and La Jolla, in which citizens play an active role in MPA human use surveys, the training equipped local residents with the tools and knowledge necessary to effectively monitor the Swami's MPA.

In order to improve regulatory compliance and establish a better understanding of human use within San Diego County's MPAs, WILDCOAST has designed its MPA Watch Program to engage local residents directly in MPA implementation. To date, WILDCOAST has trained over 80 San Diego County residents as MPA Watch volunteers.

In 2014, WILDCOAST will carry out additional trainings in Imperial Beach, La Jolla and Ensenada. Stay tuned for future opportunities to become involved.
