Sunday October 23 at 2pm

Zoological Society of San Diego's Beckman Center for Conservation Research
15600 San Pasqual Valley Rd., Escondido, CA (next to the Wild Animal Park)

Dr. Robert Ridgely, a leading ornithologist in the study of endemic and endangered species of birds in the Americas, will be making a rare visit to Southern California for a talk to benefit the conservation programs of the Western Alliance for Nature and the Jocotoco Foundation.

Dr. Ridgely is the author of Birds of Panama, Birds of South America Vols I & II and Birds of Ecuador. Over 25 years ago he discovered a rare species of parakeet, the El Oro Parakeet, in Ecuador and then again in 1997 he discovered the Jocotoco Antpitta (Grallaria ridgely), named after him. Dr. Ridgely is Vice President of Endangered Bird Conservation for the American Bird Conservancy (ABC). Working with the Western Alliance for Nature, the two organizations have recently purchased and set aside over 1000 additional acres of habitat in Ecuador for the protection and preservation of neotropical birds.
