PLAYA TRONCONES, GUERRERO, May 6, 2008-
Thanks to the work of WiLDCOAST and the strong support of worldwide public opinion we were able to stop the slaughter of sharks in Playa Troncones in the Mexican coast of Guerrero, and achieved a public commitment to stop threats to this species protected by Mexican and international laws.
Earth Fair 2008 was phenomenal! We enjoyed a beautiful day at Balboa Park spreading the message of environmental stewardship and raising awareness. Thank you to all who volunteered for us and to all who visited us!
In recent years,much of Baja California, Mexico, has been targeted by massive development projects that threaten the region's marine biodiversity and local livelihoods. WiLDCOAST, with support from SIMA, has taken the lead on organizing local ocean festivals for local youth in the communities of Punta Abreojos, Bahia Tortugas and Bahia Asuncion. By supporting their positive connection to the ocean, WiLDCOAST is working to empower the next generation of activists.
