On Saturday, July 24, Tijuana Calidad de Vida and WiLDCOAST partnered with over 20 city workers and about 45 local residents to clean-up the Alacran Canyon in Los Laureles Tijuana, a sub-basin of the Tijuana River.
Supported by the Solid Waste Department of the City of Tijuana, two large man-operated excavators and volunteers filled up seven dump trucks and two large waste bins with over 15 tons of solid waste and trash. This prevented this ocean-bound waste from making its way across the border and into the Tijuana River Valley once the rains start.
"I’m here because I have a problem with trash" said Miguel, a Tijuana resident. When asked why he had come to the cleanup he said: "I really hate trash and can't let it wash out to the ocean. We all must do our part."
Tijuana Calidad de Vida and WiLDCOAST would like to thank the City if Tijuana, IMPLAN and San Diego Coastkeeper for their support.
