A.J. Schneller, Ph.D.

Coastal and Marine Conservation Program Manager

A.J.’s conservation policy, restoration, and educational work in the Otay Valley Regional Park (OVRP), south San Diego Bay, and Southern California's Marine Protected Areas involves conservation of the remaining open spaces in the south bay and promoting passive recreation in these underutilized environmental gems of southern San Diego County. He works closely with the OVRP Citizen’s Advisory Committee (CAC) and facilitates projects for building public interest in preserving vital watersheds and involving youth and community members in environmental learning and habitat restoration events in the region.

Prior to working at WiLDCOAST, A.J. lived in Baja California Sur, Mexico where he was a lecturer of Environmental Studies at The School for Field Studies – Center for Coastal Studies and Boston University. A.J. also held positions with The University of Arizona, The Center for Biological Diversity, The City of Tucson, and was an AmeriCorps Service Learner in Central Oregon.

He holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Studies from the University of Arizona's School of Teaching, Learning and Sociocultural Studies and The School of Natural Resources and the Environment. He received his MPA in Environmental Policy from The School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University.
